Isn’t this a thing of beauty? Like a miracle. During the fight, my shoulder began to sting. I had heard rumors that a river near Lynchburg, TN had been stocked with large rainbow trout (known as “broodfish”); these are, basically, large mature fish used for breeding purposes at a local hatchery. Apparently, other fly fishermen had this rumor, because the bank was lined with almost a dozen men in waders, casting loops into the water. We all had the same dream: escape from our families and maybe catch one of these beauties. I had no luck until I left the waters near the dam and followed the river into the forest, nearly breaking my neck a few times while slipping on mud. There’s a bend in the river, that nearly everyone knows about. You go only go there if you’re willing to get muddy. At the bend I stood waist deep in cloudy water and worked a tiny prince nymph down stream. The spot is surrounded by very steep hills, so it gets dark quickly right before sunset. The near total quite will awaken any musician’s rock n roll tinnitus. I don’t even remember the strike. I do remember the tug-tug-TUG that let me know it was a big one. And that shoulder is still sore on this Sunday morning. #outdoorphotography #lynchburg #runnerofthewoods #fai2020 #trout #tennessee

A gift from the heavens
Check out this beauty from the fish blog. My arm still hurts.
Runner of the Woods is possibly going to Folk Alliance this year. It’s in New Orleans, and decaying French cities are my thing.
It’s an expensive cattle call, really. But who am I kidding? It’s in New Orleans and I’m going.
